Leben
Hacker besuchte die Bronx High School of Science und studierte an der New York University.
Hacker war als Professorin fΓΌr Romanistik am City College of New York und am CUNY Graduate Center in New York City tΓ€tig.cite-ref-1[1] Als Dichterin verΓΆffentlichte sie zahlreiche Werke. 1990 wurde sie die erste hauptberufliche Redakteurin der Kenyon Review, eine Position, die sie bis 1994 innehatte. Von 2008 bis 2014 war sie PrΓ€sidentin der Academy of American Poets.
Von 1961 bis 1980 war Hacker mit dem US-amerikanischen Autor Samuel R. Delany verheiratet. 1974 wurde ihre gemeinsame Tochter Iva Hacker-Delany geboren. Hacker wohnt in New York City und in Paris.
